About Us
Toto Angel Centre is a Community Based Organization stationed in Kayole, an Estate in the Eastern part of Nairobi. It was founded in 2013 by a Kenyan-German group of professionals who saw the need in the area of Kayole. The area is characterized by a high level of unemployment, alcohol and drug addiction, poverty, prostitution and gang related crimes and other types of vices. Many of our children are victims of sexual, physical, emotional abuse and neglect. The objective of Toto Angel Centre at inception was to provide children living in these conditions with a safe place to spend the day, at least one meal a day and an essential foundation in education to enable them to cope in life. We believe that education is a major cornerstone to behavioural change in a community and to improving the future lives of our children.
The project mainly serves as a rescue center and provides shelter for the most vulnerable children. Likewise, a day-care, school and pre-school education is provided as need arises. We also accommodate street children whose mothers are enrolled in a rehabilitation program from the Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund. When children graduate from pre-school they go to a public school and receive continuous support from us. The final goal which forms the whole scope of our existence is to reintegrate the children back into the community and their families.
Toto Angel Centre survives on irregular funding and donations. Through good networking the centre receives donations from the church and people in the local community and international well-wishers. Nevertheless, we need a stable continuous support especially in funding the reintegration process, in the long run financially empowering the centre, therefore reaching out to more vulnerable children. We as board members come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a healthy mix of knowledge and skills in the areas of project management, guidance and counselling, medicine, social work and religious work to the table. We have many ideas of expanding the services offered. We are hoping to further improve the living conditions of the children and are planning to venture more into income generating activities.
