Just like everywhere els in the world, Kenya has been hit hard by the Coronavirus Pandemic. Here, too, the worst affected are the poorest families. Casual workers were the first ones to loose their jobs and only income due to restrictions of contacts between persons. ‚stay-at-home‘ orders and the avoidance of cash lead to a loss of the last income options for beggars and street families.
Working together with our South Korean partners H.B.N.U we were able to support the families fo Kanguruwe with an emergency support package. During September and October 2020 we handed out a total of 80 food baskets and additional financial support. This at least took the worst pressure off the families as they had food for one month and we also paid their rent and electricity bills. Naturally, this is no long term solution, it however gave the families some room to breathe, orient themselves and develop ideas on how they can move on.
